I’ve been telling stories and drawing them since I was able to speak or think — mostly lies, because those are the most fun.

Growing up, my passions lay in music, ballet, moving pictures, and Math. I studied music and dance at the Conservatoire in France for well over 15 years, yet somehow ended up with an engineering degree and master’s degrees in computer science and filmmaking. Eventually, my scientific and artistic interests — and financial ones, because that cannot be ignored — took me for over 10 years through producing, directing and visual effects.

Until the need to write became more urgent. My kids wanted to read the stories I had been telling them since they were born.

“Mom, I can’t find the book about the story you told us last time.”

That ask — demand — became my primary motivation for creating books. The second, maybe the most important, was wanting my kids to be part of the process and draw the pictures they had imagined just by hearing the words all those years.

Mailan, the story-drawer of the three siblings, started drawing them when she was 10. Her younger brothers, Sy and Khai, have drawn them too, though you really have to be ready when that rare interest manifests!

The more stories I wrote for them to draw, the more other stories started flowing through my mind. Stories that couldn’t be contained inside a script or illustrations. Without really intending to, one in particular started turning into what looked suspiciously like a novel — maybe even a trilogy.

Through Maiflower Books, I’ll do my best to let those stories find the readers who need them.
